The railway system, opened in 1919, was government-run and consisted of a 5ft 3 in
broad-gauge line connecting Noojee to Warragul. It transported passengers, goods, and
timber from the region.
In contrast, the tramway system was privately constructed as narrow-gauge wooden
lines, spanning over 200 km. These tramways were specifically designed to haul logs
from the surrounding forests to the Noojee Railway Station.
There are key differences between the railway and the tramways. The railway served
multiple functions, while the tramways were dedicated solely to timber transportation.
Structurally, the railway featured engineered bridges, such as the iconic Noojee Trestle
Bridge. Explore the legacy of our unique transport systems and discover how they
shaped the history of Noojee!
