In April 1922, the River Latrobe Hydro-Electric Co. Pty Ltd officially activated its hydroelectric power station near Noojee, providing electricity for a local sawmill and the nearby townships of Neerim and Warragul. Formed by local businessmen from Warragul in 1918, this innovative venture harnessed water from the Tooronga River, showcasing an early commitment to sustainable, local power generation. Construction of the plant took approximately two years and faced significant challenges, including difficult terrain and the use of second-hand generators. The hydroelectric station operated for a decade, supplying electricity to Noojee, Neerim, and Warragul, before ceasing operations in 1932.
